Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Dermatologist Physician performs medical diagnostic and treatment activities of a dermatology specialist physician, consistent with college student health needs and the prevailing standards of care among dermatology specialists in the Southern California area. The incumbent is responsible for all actions taken as a licensed California physician as outlined by the Medical Board of California; provides direct patient care as a dermatology specialist to SHC patients including: interviewing patients, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing treatment, counseling patients, conducting physical examinations, referring patients to specialists within and outside the SHC, ordering and interpreting X-Ray and lab tests, and performing related health care duties. Records and completes case histories and reports on the electronic medical record; consults with private physicians and public agencies in securing treatment for students requiring services beyond those available at the SHC; provides dermatology care for occupational illness and injuries to the University staff; performs minor surgery not including general anesthesia; and performs other duties as assigned.
Graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California. Completion of one or more residency programs in a specialty appropriate to the assigned duties with increasingly responsible experience in the practice of dermatology. Prior or current affiliation with a hospital or outpatient clinic is preferred. Incumbents must possess and maintain the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in the State of California.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to effectively apply the principles and methods essential to the assigned medical specialty, and in the diagnosis and treatment of common medical disorders, and in the assessment and response to emergency situations. Thorough knowledge of community resources in medical treatment and public health practices. Thorough knowledge of local, state, and national laws and regulations pertaining to the medical field and specialty; thorough knowledge of applicable professional ethics and standards. Ability to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other health center personnel; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of medical practitioners and specialists, as well as students, administrators, and faculty.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
The salary range for this classification is: $70.79 – $111.48 per hour.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $83.00 – $100.00, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
HOURS: Part time; 8 hours per week, to be arranged between 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday;
TEMP: This is a Temporary – renewable position, end date to be determined.

The Student Health Center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. and as such, will recommend certain vaccinations or screenings free of charge for the successful candidate.

This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU.  The selected candidate must pass a fingerprint clearance (LiveScan).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
