  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Must possess current valid California R.N. license
  • Completed advanced courses in the field of nursing education, including courses in Administration, Principles of Teaching, Supervision, and Curriculum Development
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an R.N. at least one year in teaching or clinical supervision within the past five years
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing in Education is preferred
  • Must hold or meet the qualifications to obtain California Designated Subjects Teaching Credential for Adult Education.



  • Develop and maintain program curriculum to meet state, regional, national, and local health care needs.
  • Must ensure 100% program compliance with all standards and guidelines set forth by state and national accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as contact person/coordinator for the department with regard to state, professional, and accrediting groups, the community, and other external contacts.
  • Serve as a liaison with the state Board of Nursing and Accrediting bodies as required for program compliance with industry trends and law adjustments.
  • Maintain program in good standing with accrediting agencies
  • Conduct/attend program meetings to include but not limited to: faculty, campus, organizational, community advisory boards, and state Board of Nursing as scheduled.
  • Maintain relationships with administrative authorities and other academic and support units for program planning and development.
  • Develop program activities and curriculum development to increase NCLEX pass rate and meet department goals
  • Review and implement strategy for improving course offerings, program development, and curriculum proposals
  • Supervise and evaluate externship/clinical/fieldwork experiences
  • Serve as a mentor/facilitator providing guidance and support for Nursing Team
  • Screen and Select Students for Nursing program
  • Educate students in a class setting (as needed)
  • Oversee day-to-day operations as well as faculty guidance of didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction, assignments, and/or scheduling of classes.
  • Maintain departmental records
  • Implement strategy for the practical, clinical or field experience and required documentation in order for students to be placed promptly in their clinical rotations/assignments.
  • Coordinate and monitor clinical affiliations/contracts, rotations, visits to clinical facilities and classrooms, and maintains written record on all clinical visits.
  • Communicate regularly with clinical externship sites, maintain current clinical externship sites, affiliation agreements, and required documentation, and develop new sites as required.
  • Coordinate and ensure timely placement of students at clinical externship sites, conduct orientations, and provide students with necessary documentation and information for sites.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report student progress and attendance.
  • Conduct regular site visits and to support Nursing Instructor on site during clinical externship.
  • Communicate regularly with program staff and administrators.
