Full-Time PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE IV
The Houston Health Department is actively searching for a Public Health Nurse to join their team!
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Houston Health Department is actively searching for a skilled individual who is self-motivated and willing to provide essential services including case management, timely submission of reports to Department of State Health Services (DSHS) with minimal oversight. Schedule and attend MD appointments with patients. Make home visits as necessary and conduct clinic session every other month. Assist patients with travel needs; if necessary, transport patients who reside in Harris County to their MD appointment. Provide education to internal and community partners on Hansen’s Disease. Provide TB case management as assigned with the support of the TB Nurse Case Management Team. Represent the Bureau by participating in departmental activities (i.e. attend departmental meetings, complete departmental reports). Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions.The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is preferred. Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Four years of experience as a practicing registered nurse are required. A Master of Science degree in Nursing and two years of experience in general nursing, including one year of supervisory experience, may be substituted for the experience requirement.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
- Previous experience in a clinic setting, dealing with communicable diseases.
- Current CPR certification for Healthcare providers is preferred; Bilingual Spanish/English
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
Salary: $58,656.00 to $83,200.00 /year
