Full-Time Director, Vaccine-Preventable Disease Program

Job Description

  • Epidemiologist 3 serving as the Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Director in the Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization Program (VPDIP) within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness Program (CEDEP) at the Tennessee Department of Health in Nashville, TN.
  • Oversee all VPD surveillance, outbreak response, and special surveillance projects including Acute Flaccid Myelitis, Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children, and COVID-19 breakthrough cases. Provide guidance, support and technical assistance to Tennessee’s 13 public health jurisdictions on VPD investigations and outbreak response. Write and maintain VPD-pertinent sections of federal grants. Serve as the Pandemic Influenza Vaccination Preparedness Coordinator and oversee and coordinate the sentinel influenza-like illness surveillance program (ILINet). Position reports to the Medical Director of the Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization Program and serves on the senior leadership team.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in public health,
    epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, public policy, health administration or other health sciences,
    plus experience equivalent to six (6) years of professional work in public health practice. Candidates
    should have experience analyzing public health data, preferably in SAS.
    Desired Qualifications:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters or Doctorate degree in public
    health, epidemiology, biostatistics, public policy, health administration or other health sciences, plus
    experience equivalent to four (4) years of professional work in public health practice. Previous
    supervisory experience a plus along with and involvement working with a statewide surveillance
    system.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in public health,
    epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, public policy, health administration or other health sciences.Desired Education:

    health, epidemiology, biostatistics, public policy, health administration or other health sciences.
