The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the state of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population.
The agency is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Infection Preventionist – HAI within the Division of Health Protection, Epidemiology Section.
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting infection control readiness assessments for a variety of healthcare facilities across the continuum of care, including acute care, long-term care, ambulatory surgical care, and dialysis settings. The incumbent will work closely with the HAI Medical Epidemiologist (to conduct assessments), the HAI Program Manager (to manage the statewide HAI program), the HAI Epidemiologists (to assist in identifying facilities for audits), and the Georgia HAI Advisory Committee.
Job Responsibilities:Assist in the identification of appropriate infection prevention assessment tools for a variety of healthcare settings.
Conduct on-site infection control assessments of acute care, long-term care, dialysis, and ambulatory surgical centers. Assessments will include on-site consultations, gap analysis, and mitigation plan development.
Perform follow-up assessments of selected facilities that have been audited to ensure identified infection prevention gaps have been mitigated. Assessments will include follow-up of the Ebola designated treatment and diagnosis of hospitals identified by the GA Department of Public Health Hospital Preparedness Program.
Provide recommendations for infection prevention training needs for different care settings and assist with the development and presentation of training provided to health care facility infection preventionists and local health departments.
Receive, research and respond to inquiries from infection preventionists, providers, or general public.
Supervise second infection preventionist to conduct assessments in the state.
Participate in validation of state National Healthcare Safety Network HAI data as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field And Three years of related experience working in the area of Healthcare Associated Infections;
Seven years of related experience working in the area of Healthcare Associated Infections;
Three years of related experience at the lower level or position equivalent;
A combination of education and experience at agency discretion.Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following:
– 3 to 5 years of experience as an infection preventionist in an acute care setting.
– Strong knowledge of National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) HAI surveillance criterion (CDC).
– Ability to effectively supervise one additional staff member.
