JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care and training for patients/clients following established standards and procedures. As a registry employee you may be requested to work on any unit, any shift, any day off the week. ACLS certification must be obtained within one year of employment.. All RN’s working in Medical Services through the registry will be expected to maintain certification in ACLS.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Directly reports to and is functionally supervised by the Registered Nurse (Shift Lead) or Senior Psychiatric Technician of assigned unit.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None but may act as lead if designated.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in this duty statement. Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; must be able to participate in client containment, intervention or restraint. Must have the ability to work extended hours and various shifts; must float to all work areas within the facility if called upon to do so.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITION: On-going interaction with clients. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.
10% – Performs and/or directs nursing procedures, such as administering medications and treatments including oral medication, hypodermic injections, urinary catheterization, enemas, and taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and first aid as authorized within the scope of the Registered Nurse License. Start and monitor IV’s.
5% – Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team in all aspects of the development and implementation of the Individual Habilitation Plan.
5% – Observes and documents clients’ physical condition and behavior and reports significant changes to appropriate staff.
5% – Provides one-to-one supervision/direct observation of clients on special precautions, i.e. elopement risks, suicide risks and medical condition and risk of serious self-injurious behavior to client.
5% – Maintains a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment which promotes respect and dignity and protects the privacy, rights, confidentiality and physical/emotional well-being of the clients.
5% – Responds to emergencies that involve use of medical/behavioral intervention techniques.
5% – Assists, in collaboration with the physician, in determining what, if any, habilitative training should be continued while patient remains on acute unit.
5% – Escorts clients on the facility grounds and to/from community.
5% – Prepares psychiatric and physical assessments, performs nursing diagnosis, and health care objectives.
15% – Assists clients in all activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, dining and leisure activities. These duties also include lifting, positioning and client mobility.
5% – Attends and participates in training as required.
10% – Responds to emergency client and staff situations, follows established protocols, directs team members as needed, and documents events.
10% – Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts, including rotation/floating to units as assigned. Works extended hours and/or varying shifts. Works at various sites as needed to meet staffing requirements.
10% – Escorts clients to and from medical appointments in the community.
